Wisdom Wednesday

Today is Wisdom Wednesday......where we share some of our dental wisdom with our readers.

Let's talk about flossing.  Why is flossing so hard for people to remember to do?  Do we really need to floss?
YESSSS we do!

Flossing is a method for removing bacteria and other debris that cannot be reached by a toothbrush. Think about it, the toothbrush only brushes 3 sides of the tooth. If you only brush, you miss 2 sides of every tooth. No wonder we recommend flossing!

We know, we know..... everyone hates the little string, but it has gotten better. There are now floss sticks so you don't have to wrap the string around your fingers. And there are even newly configured floss sticks for braces. Uh oh, no more excuses.
You should floss at least once every 24 hours. Like brushing, flossing should take about one to three minutes and can easily be done while doing another activity, such as watching television.

Why is flossing so important????
We believe that flossing is the single most important weapon against plaque. Remember plaque is the accumulation of bacteria that produce toxins and acids. Research has shown a connection between these toxins and heart disease, pancreatic cancer and other immune disorders.
After you get practiced, daily flossing is quick and easy. It is an excellent and proven method for complementing your brushing routine and helping to prevent cavities, periodontal disease, and other dental problems, as well as the systemic diseases mentioned above.

It's just something that you have to make a habit of doing.  Write yourself a note....a post-it on the mirror to remind yourself to do it, and one day....it will be a habit!
